The Hurricanes currently have the second best . The Caps find themselves in the bottom half of the league with the 17th-best odds.
Hurricanes Win vs Capitals Tuesday
We got a preview of Saturday s action on Tuesday night when the Hurricanes paid a visit to the Capitals.
Brent Burns and TJ Oshie traded goals in the first, and Paul Stastny and Justin Snively scored in the second before Stefan Noesen s 10th of the season held up as the winner. Frederik Anderson stopped 34 of 36 shots for his 12th win of the season.
Washington went 0-for-3 on the power play and turned the puck over 17 times.
FINAL | Hurricanes 3, Caps 2
With no Alex Ovechkin, the Capitals can’t get the equalizer in time and fall to the Hurricanes. WSH continues to struggle providing Darcy Kuemper with run support. They’ll see CAR again in the Stadium Series game Saturday.
Matt Weyrich (@ByMattWeyrich)
Darcy Kuemper s hard-luck first season in Washington continued. Despite making 27 saves, he lost for the 15th time this season. He fell to 16-15-4 despite a .915 save percentage and a 2.59 GAA.
Capitals Offense Needs to Find Spark
Not surprisingly, Alex Ovechkin is Washington s leading scorer. And without him the Caps are searching for answers.
He s scored 32 goals this season and is Washington s only player with more than 15. He s one of two Capitals with more than 40 points (he has 54) and is the only forward averaging over 19 minutes per night (20:29).
Ovechkin last played February 12th, but was held scoreless for the fourth-straight game.
Including the two games they ve played without him, the Caps have scored six goals in their last four games.
Hurricanes Dominance Continues
Unstoppable is a word you could use to describe Carolina lately.
They downed the Canadiens 6-2 on Thursday night, riding Seth Jarvis first career hattrick to victory. The win was Carolina s ninth in their last 10 games, and 11th in their last 13. If it wasn t for four and five game losing streaks earlier this season, the Canes would have a better shot at the Presidents Trophy.
Jarvis sophomore campaign has certainly been a bright spot, but it s far from the only one.
Per , Jarvis is the fourth youngest player to score a hat trick in Carolina Hurricanes history.
Now he takes his talents outside to Carter-Finley Stadium for Saturday s Stadium Series game against the Washington Capitals.
Nick Marek (@NicholasMarek)
Sebatian Aho, Martin Necas and Andrei Svechnikov all have at least 46 points. With Svechnikov sitting at 19 goals on the season, it s a formality all three cross the 20 goal threshold.
Jordan Stall is currently 10 points away from 400 for his career. If he gets there this season, he could have his first 40 point season since 2017/18.
Things could only get better in Carolina, too. It s being reported the team has interest in Patrick Kane and Tim Meier, among others, ahead of the NHL s Trade Deadline.
Capitals vs Hurricanes Pick
The ice conditions on Saturday could be interesting. Saturday sees a projected high of 54 degrees before sliding to 43 for puck drop.
After a run of five-straight Stadium Series games where at least six total goals were scored, the last two have seen four and five scored. Could the low-scoring trend continue?
