2024-25 NFL Defensive Player of the Year Award Odds: Hutchinson Hurt, Watt Takes Over

Detroit Lions pass rusher Aidan Hutchinson was gathering momentum in the NFL Defensive Player of the Year odds, but a broken tibia suffered vs. the Cowboys in Week 6 has derailed his chances.

Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker T.J. Watt, the 2021 DPOY and a four-time finalist for the coveted award, is now the clear frontrunner in this market.

Is this NFL odds race over? Or will a dark horse throw his hat into the ring? Let’s take a look at where things stand with Week 7 on the horizon.

Favorites to win the NFL Defensive Player of the Year award

T.J. Watt (+125 to +140)

Finishing as 2023’s league leader in sacks with 19, T.J. Watt has picked up where he left off during the Pittsburgh Steelers’ start to the season. The star pass rusher has recorded 4.5 sacks and 19 solo tackles thus far, spearheading a defense that is allowing just 14.3 points per game.

Watt walked away with the DPOY award in 2021, and if it weren’t for injuries the following year, he would have been a serious contender to repeat in 2022.

Maxx Crosby (+900 to +2,000)

A former fourth-round pick out of Eastern Michigan, Maxx Crosby hasn’t stopped being a menace for the Las Vegas Raiders.

The three-time Pro Bowler set the tone for the Raiders’ stop unit last season, totaling 15 sacks and boasting a defensive grade of 92.1 according to Pro Football Focus. Crosby has continued to inflict damage in Las Vegas’ first six games, generating 5.5 sacks and two batted passes.

Will Anderson (+800 to +1,000)

Watt wasn’t the only player to see his odds slashed about 50% from Week 6 to Week 7.

Houston Texans defensive end Will Anderson was a monster vs. the Patriots, tallying three sacks and four TFLs while batting a pass that turned into an INT.

Anderson entered the game tied for seventh in the NFL with 23 quarterback pressures but had just 2.5 sacks on the season. He’s no longer flying under the radar in this market.
